Jay Morakis is a co-founder of JMR Worldwide and managing partner. He is a corporate communications specialist, helping clients shape their overall communications strategies for both internal and external audiences. Mr. Morakis has serviced companies, both public and private, and has particular expertise in cross-border communications, working with the firm’s global energy, technology and financial services accounts.
He has significant experience in strategically branding and positioning international corporate enterprises and executives within the U.S. market, as well as maintaining and enhancing both corporate and government reputations. He has a specific expertise in issues management and crisis communications; wherein he develops and manages both proactive and reactive plans geared to the energy, financial, government, media and public communities.
Mr. Morakis previously served as the lead supervisor in Edelman Public Relations Corporate and Issues Management Practice where he led global corporate communications programs, overseeing media relations and speakers bureau campaigns. Prior to working in the Corporate practice, he was part of Edelman’s financial communications and global technology groups. Of particular note was his work with Singapore’s Info-communications Development authority (IDA), India’s Cognizant Technologies, LatinStocks.com, and the U.S.’s Knight/Trimark. Additionally, his group ran the global public relations efforts for Factiva in the U.S., England, France, Germany, Hong Kong and Australia.
Morakis began his career in Burson-Marsteller’s Public Affairs practice in New York, where he managed crises and issues management campaigns as well as corporate communications for a wide range of U.S. and European companies, as well as international governments. Of particular note is his work with Phillip Morris’ Tobacco division, Home Depot, Northeast Utilities’ Nuclear Division, American Home Products, Generalli, Benckiser NV, the Toy Manufacturers Association and the Bulgarian Government.
A graduate of Boston University, Mr. Morakis holds a bachelor’s degree in communications with a minor in economics.
